Membership Eligibility:
If you have served federal active duty in the United States Armed Forces for at least one day since December 1, 1941, and have been honorably discharged or are still serving, you are eligible for membership in The American Legion. Because eligibility dates remain open, all active duty members of the U.S. Armed Forces are eligible to join The American Legion at this time until the end of hostilities as determined by the government of the United States.
The American Legion has opened eligibility from December 1, 1941 to the present, regardless of serving during war time. The Legion is interested in knowing if a member has served during the following war times as outlined below:
Gulf War August 2, 1990 to cessation of hostilities as determined by the United States Government
Panama December 20 1989, to January 31, 1990
Lebanon & Grenada August 24, 1982 to July 31, 1984
Vietnam War February 28, 1961 to May 7, 1975
Korean War June 25, 1950 to January 31, 1955
World War II December 7, 1941 to December 31, 1946
World War I April 6, 1917 to November 11, 1918
Post Requirements:
Any veteran invested in our mission to advocate for the issues, needs, and benefits of women veterans is welcome to join Post 644. Veterans must show proof of eligibility by submitting a copy of their DD-214 (Certificate of Discharge from Active Duty) or a copy of their federal activation orders showing service under Title 10, subsection 672 or 12301. If you do not have your DD-214 or federal activation orders, please visit the National Personnel Records Center website at http://www.archives.gov/veterans/military-service-records to order your records online or to print out a paper request to be mailed. Post 644 dues are $60 per year to be paid NLT December 31st. . The Post retains $ 12.50 of that amount in our general fund, and the remainder pays your Department of Ohio dues, National dues, and your subscription to The American Legion Magazine.
